Welcome to Armenia! The guide meets you at Yerevan International Airport. We shall have a light city tour.
Yerevan, one of the oldest inhabited capitals in the world, blends the ancient and modern. During Yerevan city tour you will see all the major sights of the capital. We start the tour with a visit to the Republic Square. It houses the National Art Gallery, the History Museum, the Government House and other buildings.
We then head to the spectacular Opera House and the Swan Lake. Next on the list is the Cascade Monument where you can walk up a giant staircase to enjoy a beautiful view of Yerevan. We shall see the Parliament, the Palace of President, and the National Academy of Sciences during the driving.
The excursion also includes a visit to the Victory Park and make a stop at the Mother Armenia Monument that overlooks the capital.
DAY 2: GEGHARD MONASTERY, GARNI TEMPLE, STONE SYMPHONY (5-6 hours)
Today we will visit one of the main pilgrimage sites in Armenia - the Geghard Monastery carved into the rock - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is believed to be the place where the Holy Lance was kept in the middle ages. The Holy Lance was brought to Armenia by apostle St. Thaddeus in the 1st century. Today hundreds of people visit this place and drink the crystal-clear miraculous water coming from the spring inside.
We will then drive to Garni village. Here we will visit the only surviving pagan temple at Garni, dating from the 1st century AD, is a splendid example of ancient architecture of Hellenistic period. At one time a great complex of palaces and temples, serving as a summer residence for the Armenian Kings, stood here. Moreover, there is also a natural monument, called Stone Symphony. It is most easily reached via a road that leads left down the gorge just before reaching Garni temple.
DAY 3, 4: TSAGHKADZOR SKI RESORT, LAKE SEVAN
We start from Yerevan to lake Sevan.
This fresh – water lake of volcanic origin is situated at an altitude about 6.500 feet. Its crystal – clear transparent water changes color several times during the day. It is turquoise in direct sunlight, then turns a greenish shade, and finally becomes gray by the evening. Sevan has always been famous for its fish, especially trout which was a part of the tribute Armenia paid to its conquerors.
Among the most interesting sites is the monastery on the rocky peninsula jutting out into Sevan. One of the churches, named Arakelots (The Apostles) is made of rough – hewn weather – beaten slabs. The other church, Astvatsatsin, is larger and of finer workmanship
Today we visit the Tsagkadzor ski resort, which is located along the side of Mount Teghenis (2819 m) and about 60 km far from Yerevan. Tsaghkadzor literally means valley of flowers or flower canyon in Armenian.
Take a ride on the Leitner ropeway to the top, from which you will see Lake Sevan, one of the highlights of Armenia.
2 overnights in nice hotel in Tsakhkadzor.
DAY 5, 6: DILIJAN NATIONAL PARK (7-8 hours)
We continue our journey to the beautiful rolling valley framed by the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus – this is Dilijan – one of the best resort – towns of Armenia. For those who are interested in history and medieval architecture, Dilizhan holds quite a few attractions. One of them is the Haghartsin Monastery. It is to be found about 7 km. up a stream which falls into Agstev River to the northwest of the town. The monastery may be described as a school of architecture. It took about 300 years to build with every generation of architects adding on new structures so factually that they enhanced and blended with the design of the their predecessors and the natural surroundings.
